# Helmets

1. **What is a Helmet?**
   * A Helmet is a type of defensive Gear that provides both Physical Defense and Magic Defense, offering the second highest defense after Armor.
   * The optimal Helmet depends on your Character’s [Job](/characters/job.md) and [Skills](/characters/skills.md).
   * Some Helmets can be obtained through missions and may grant special buff effects.

2. **What is a Shadow Helmet?**
   * A Shadow Helmet is a type of Shadow Gear that primarily boosts defensive stats.
   * Some pieces may also alter your Character’s Skills.
