# Novice

1. #### What is a Novice?
   * A Novice is the default state for all newly created Characters. They are Characters who live without a proper Job.
   * They can have either a male or female appearance.

   * When you first create a Character, no Skills are shown in the Skill info box.
   * After completing Main Quest 2: Defeat Poring, you can learn Skills through the Skill menu.
   * For more details on Novice Skills, please refer to the provided link.

3. **Job**
   * When a Novice reaches level 5, they can choose one of the following Jobs: [Swordsman](/characters/job/swordsman.md), [Magician](/characters/job/magician.md), [Thief](/characters/job/thief.md), or [Archer](/characters/job/archer.md).
