# Novice

1. #### What is a Novice?
   * A Novice is the default state for all newly created Characters. They are Characters who live without a proper Job.
   * They can have either a male or female appearance.

   * When you first create a Character, no Skills are shown in the Skill info box.
   * After completing Main Quest 2: Defeat Poring, you can learn Skills through the Skill menu.

3. **Job**
   * When a Novice reaches level 5, they can choose one of the following Jobs: [Swordsman](https://wiki.ragnaroklibre.com/characters/job/swordsman), [Magician](https://wiki.ragnaroklibre.com/characters/job/magician), [Thief](https://wiki.ragnaroklibre.com/characters/job/thief), or [Archer](https://wiki.ragnaroklibre.com/characters/job/archer).
